DAY THREE: In the morning you will be taken to the airport where you will depart for the hour-long flight up over the Andes to Cusco. Most tourists go immediately to Cusco, but to make your adjustment to the altitude of these parts a little easier (Cusco is at 11,500 feet), you will be driven directly to Ollantaytambo, a few thousand feet lower. The hour and a half trip will take you over the high plains, passing through a landscape of stunning contrasts. |
|
You will drop into the Sacred Valley in sight of snow-capped mountains to where the Urubamba river flows. The road runs beside the river through mountains that become ever steeper, rising on both sides. |
|
You will be staying at the beautiful Pakaritampu
Hotel where you will have lunch and get a brief orientation talk by
Richard Nisbet. After lunch you may rest, explore the town or hike/walk/amble
any number of paths around the town, all through stunning scenery and
remnants of the Inca civilization. |
|
DAY FOUR: Explore the temple in the morning. Travel through the beautiful Sacred Valley to the Pisac Market and ruins. Lunch en route at Tunupa Restaurant in Urubamba. Return to Ollantaytambo. Overnight at the Pakaritampu Hotel. B, L |
